Our Top Six Apps for Improving Your Biz While on the Go

As a population reliant on the Smartphone, it’s easy for the phrase, “I need an app for that” to become a real business necessity, not just a catchy phrase. With apps for finding cheap gas, purchasing Chipotle on the go, and even checking our email accounts, it seems as though there really is an app for everything.

But have you considered that there may be an app to help improve how you do business? (Sidenote: TKG is actually awesome at building them; our apps are customized to help your biz reach its goals.)

Let’s assume for minute, though, that you’re not wanting to build your own app right now, but want some business already out there that can help you improve your sales and work process.

These apps are only a few of thousands (as of April 2012, there were around 600,000 available for the iPhone alone, and 200,000 for iPad) but WOW are they standouts, especially if you’re in the B2B world like us.

TurboScan

This app allows you to use your Smartphone’s camera to take pictures of your receipts, contracts, whiteboards and other various forms your company uses and quickly turn them into PDFs or JPEGs. The documents can then be sent to email, opened, or printed to speed up various processes. Don’t believe me? This app boasts a 5 star rating from 2963 users.

Evernote

Jot down all of your notes in one area instead of that napkin that will inevitably make itself into the trash or under your car seat. Or, make notes on that napkin, scan it, and store it in Evernote. This app allows you to take notes and photos, create to-do lists, record voice reminders, and more. The best part of this app is that all of notes are completely searchable on your phone, tablet or desktop – even my handwritten scribbles are searchable! This is certainly one of my most used apps; it even contends with my paper day planner. Evernote has a 4.5 star rating from 635 users.

Dropbox

Somewhat like Evernote in the sense that you are able to download your docs from any of your electronic devices, Dropbox is even more important for your documents. You are able to put documents into your Dropbox, which backs up files and automatically share them with members of your team or a customer. With 1178 ratings, this app receives 4 stars.

LinkedIn

Yes, it’s a social networking site, and yes, I am suggesting you download the app on your Smartphone. I recommend hopping on your tablet or desktop in order to set up your account. And remember, if you are setting up your company profile, be sure to complete it IN FULL and optimize it. But with the app, you are able to receive notifications on your phone each time a contact messages you or when you need to look up a contact. You can share content on your network and read your industry news anytime, anywhere.

Splashtop Remote Desktop

If you are away from work for a convention, trade show, or on business, make sure you have access to anything from your desktop. This app allows you to access files, folders, programs, applications, multimedia and programs in hi-def. It works over 3G, 4G and wifi. With 879 reviews, this remote desktop app gets 4.5 stars.

Compatibility: Mac and Windows
Cost: $2.99

Outlook Web Email

This app allows you to step away from work when you need to. While on vacation, relaxing at home or reading through personal email, this app allows all work email to be set aside from personal. It helps to separate your emails in order to stay on track, but also allows you to step back and enjoy your time away from work.
